Message from the Chief Advisor

Dear Friends, Partners, Supporters, and Well-Wishers,

Assalamu Alaikum.

It is my great pleasure and privilege to welcome you to the official website of Dristi Protibondhi Unnayan Parishad (DPUP).

Since its establishment in 2002, DPUP has been dedicated to promoting the rights, dignity, equality, independence, and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in Bangladesh. We firmly believe that every person, regardless of disability, has the right to learn, work, participate in society, make decisions, and live a life of dignity and opportunity.

Over the past two decades, DPUP has worked to empower persons with disabilities, particularly persons who are blind and visually impaired, women, children, and people living in disadvantaged and marginalized communities. Through advocacy, inclusive education, healthcare and rehabilitation, skills development, livelihood opportunities, social awareness, and community-based development initiatives, we seek to create sustainable and meaningful change.

Our approach is guided by a simple but powerful principle: disability is not inability. When barriers are removed and environments, services, institutions, and communities become accessible and inclusive, persons with disabilities can contribute fully to their families, communities, and the nation.

DPUP therefore seeks to move beyond a charity-based approach toward rights-based inclusion, empowerment, participation, and self-reliance. Our objective is not simply to provide assistance, but to create opportunities through which persons with disabilities can develop their abilities, build confidence, achieve economic independence, exercise their rights, and participate as equal citizens.

We recognize that sustainable development cannot be achieved by any single organization. Our progress has been made possible through the commitment and cooperation of our Executive Committee, staff, volunteers, persons with disabilities and their representative organizations, community leaders, government institutions, development partners, donors, civil society organizations, professionals, and well-wishers. I express my sincere appreciation to everyone who has supported DPUP and contributed to our journey.

As Bangladesh advances toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the broader vision of an inclusive and equitable society, DPUP remains committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind. We will continue to promote inclusive and quality education, accessible healthcare and rehabilitation, decent employment and livelihoods, social protection, accessibility, disaster preparedness, climate resilience, women’s and children’s rights, and inclusive community development.

We also believe that partnership is the foundation of lasting change. DPUP welcomes meaningful collaboration with government agencies, development organizations, civil society, disabled persons’ organizations (DPOs), academic and research institutions, private-sector organizations, media, professionals, volunteers, and individuals who share our commitment to equality, inclusion, and human dignity.

Together, we can identify and remove the barriers that prevent people from participating fully in society. Together, we can challenge discrimination, strengthen communities, expand opportunities, and ensure that persons with disabilities are recognized not merely as beneficiaries, but as rights-holders, leaders, contributors, and equal partners in development.

On behalf of Dristi Protibondhi Unnayan Parishad (DPUP), I sincerely thank you for your interest, trust, and continued support. I invite you to learn more about our work, engage with our initiatives, and join us in advancing an inclusive Bangladesh.

Let us work together to build a society where equality is respected, diversity is valued, barriers are removed, and no one is left behind.

Together, we can turn inclusion into action and opportunity into reality.

With sincere regards and best wishes,

Mohammad Haidar Ali
