Dristi Protibondhi Unnayan Parishad
Building an inclusive, equitable and empowered society where persons with disabilities and vulnerable communities can live with dignity, equality, independence and full participation.
Who We Are
Dristi Protibondhi Unnayan Parishad (DPUP) is a national Disabled Persons’ Organization working to promote the rights, dignity, inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities and vulnerable communities in Bangladesh.
Since its establishment in 2002, DPUP has worked to strengthen the participation of persons with disabilities in education, employment, community development, social protection, rehabilitation, advocacy and decision-making.
DPUP believes that persons with disabilities should not be viewed only as recipients of services. They should be recognized as rights-holders, active citizens, leaders and equal participants in society.
Our Background
DPUP was established with a commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of persons with disabilities through organized community action, rights-based advocacy and inclusive development.
Over the years, DPUP has worked with persons with disabilities, families, communities, government institutions, civil society organizations, development partners and other stakeholders. Its activities have included awareness raising, education, rehabilitation, skills development, livelihood support, assistive device distribution, community health, advocacy, women’s empowerment, youth participation and disaster preparedness.
DPUP’s approach recognizes that disability inclusion requires action across different areas of life. Education, health, livelihoods, accessibility, social protection, participation, climate resilience and human rights are interconnected and therefore need coordinated community-based solutions.
Our Mission
To empower persons with disabilities and vulnerable communities by promoting equal rights, accessibility, inclusive education, rehabilitation, skills development, livelihood opportunities, participation and community leadership.
DPUP seeks to strengthen the ability of individuals and communities to identify their needs, claim their rights, access opportunities and participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives.
Our Vision
An inclusive Bangladesh where every person with a disability can live with dignity, equality, independence, safety and full participation in society.
We envision communities where diversity is respected, barriers are reduced, opportunities are accessible and persons with disabilities are recognized as equal citizens and contributors to development.
