White Cane Day is observed to raise awareness of the importance of the white cane as a mobility tool and to promote independence, accessibility, safety and equal participation for people who are blind or visually impaired.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed every year on 3 December to promote awareness of disability rights, dignity, inclusion and the full and equal participation of persons with disabilities in society.
