Key Program Areas
Dristi Protibondhi Unnayan Parishad (DPUP) works to promote an inclusive, equitable and sustainable society where persons with disabilities and vulnerable communities can live with dignity, participate meaningfully in society and access equal opportunities. Its programs cover a broad range of development priorities, including advocacy and disability rights, employment and income-generating activities, skills development, community health and education, inclusive education and rehabilitation services. DPUP also supports the distribution of assistive devices to improve mobility, communication, education and independent living for persons with disabilities.
A significant part of DPUP’s work focuses on empowering women, children and young people. Through women’s empowerment initiatives, skills training, livelihood support and handicraft development, the organization seeks to strengthen the economic participation and independence of women with disabilities and other vulnerable women. Youth leadership development and self-help group formation also encourage community participation, leadership and collective action.
DPUP integrates environmental sustainability and climate resilience into its development activities. Its work includes environmental conservation, forestry, climate change adaptation, disaster preparedness and disaster risk reduction. Agriculture, fisheries, livestock, small business development and other livelihood initiatives are designed to support vulnerable households while strengthening their resilience to economic, environmental and climate-related challenges. Nutrition, health awareness, sanitation and primary healthcare are also important components of its community development approach.
Ongoing Activities
DPUP is currently implementing a range of community-based activities designed to respond to local needs and strengthen the capacity of individuals, families and communities. The organization conducts community surveys and needs assessments to understand local challenges and identify appropriate interventions. These findings inform capacity-building programs, awareness campaigns, health and education initiatives and livelihood development activities.
The organization provides training and support related to income generation, agriculture, nutrition and small business development. Its livelihood activities include nursery and agricultural development, fisheries, goat rearing and other community-based income-generating initiatives. DPUP also promotes self-help groups to encourage collective savings, mutual support, local leadership and sustainable community action.
Education and rehabilitation remain important areas of ongoing work. DPUP provides education support to children with multiple disabilities, distributes educational materials and supports blind children and their families. The organization also provides education and rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities and works to improve access to appropriate support within families and communities.
DPUP’s health-related activities include family planning, health and nutrition awareness, sanitation campaigns and primary healthcare services. The organization also distributes assistive devices to persons with disabilities and promotes awareness about disability rights, inclusion, health and social protection. Programs addressing violence against women, literacy and community awareness further contribute to the protection and empowerment of vulnerable groups.
Environmental protection and climate resilience are integrated into DPUP’s community activities through forestry and environmental conservation programs, climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives, Climate Clubs, Early Warning Centers and Disaster Risk Reduction activities. These efforts aim to improve community preparedness and encourage vulnerable populations to participate in local climate and disaster resilience planning.
DPUP also organizes public awareness rallies, national and international day observances, educational activities and community campaigns to promote social inclusion and public understanding of disability and development issues. Women with disabilities receive opportunities for handicraft training and other skills development activities intended to strengthen their participation in economic and community life.
Who We Serve
DPUP primarily serves persons with disabilities, including blind persons and people with different types of disabilities. Particular attention is given to children and women with disabilities, as well as people living in poverty, disadvantaged communities, distressed and destitute families, and vulnerable women and children. Through its programs, DPUP seeks to address barriers related to education, healthcare, rehabilitation, employment, livelihood, social participation and access to essential services.
The organization’s impact also extends beyond direct beneficiaries. Family members and caregivers of persons with disabilities benefit from awareness, education, rehabilitation guidance and community support. Community members and local institutions are engaged through awareness programs, training, disaster preparedness, environmental initiatives and inclusive development activities. DPUP staff and volunteers also participate in capacity-building and community-based implementation, strengthening the organization’s ability to provide sustainable services.

Its activities have particular attention to Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Manikganj, Tangail and Munshiganj, where the organization seeks to strengthen disability inclusion, community development, livelihoods, education, health, environmental protection and resilience.
